How Raising Quail Has Changed Since I First Started

First Time Using a Chicken Plucker to Process Chickens
Переглядів 86214 днів тому
It is time to get our chickens processed and we have a borrowed chicken plucker. I probably should have never agreed to using it though. I was blissfully unaware of just how great this thing actually is and now I don't know if I can go back to hand plucking. I have an unexpected singleton from a new doe. I feel better with the baby shelved on a heating pad low heat. Thanks for the reassurance.

Snakes that end up in my chicken coop are dead meat. Yes they will come time after time until you dispose of them.

We are starting all over tomorrow. 😩 We are switching from “Tamuks” to Californians. Feels like we wasted a year growing out our mommas & buck only to get small kits.

What I find really fascinating about coturnix quail are their origins. In Japan, these birds were originally raised as songbirds, but then the events of WWII happened and the songbird line was lost. All the quail that we have now are based on the few that survived from the egg production line.

We had a rat snake here a couple of weeks ago that was a bit larger than yours, and quite a bit lighter in color. My friend told me that when they shed their skin, they will be light-colored for a while and then darken up again. (The color had us confused when we tried to identify it.)

What variety lays the blue eggs? That might be my ticket to getting some quail. Mother of my kids has a few chickens. She recently got some Easter Eggers to add to her flock. Has anyone ever tried to hatch quail under a chicken?

My bunny’s mom wasn’t a good mom so I have had to hold her down and feed her babies twice a day since they have been born. How do I wean them? They are 6 weeks now. Should I feed them just once a day now? Whenever I bring the mom they are always so hungry and drink up the milk it seems weird to not let them. Someone please help!! Idk what to do!!

I am not sure, but I think a couple of years ago I picked broadleaf p. from my yard, stuck the fresh leaves in a jar of Pond's lotion with the blue lid, set it aside and next time I looked the white cream (not cold cream) had turned to yellowish oil. I must have strained out the leaves - don't remember if they were whole or not - and have used that oil for two years for any skin problem that isn't healing. Worked great a few weeks ago on a rash I got after mowing the lawn - I think it was a reaction to the bug repellent spray I used. I am going to make some more lotion, want to do it the easy way, but I probably will do it both ways in case the lazy way is a disaster.
